When Police Officers are at work, in their police cars or on the
streets, they use their radios and mobile phones to keep in touch
with each other.
Sometimes an officer will need to spell a word over the phone.
To make sure the person they are speaking to can hear each letter
properly, the officer will use the Phonetic Alphabet.
The Phonetic Alphabet uses a word to describe each
letter (see the table below).
The Police, the Fire Service and the Ambulance Service all use
the same Phonetic Alphabet.
Why not learn the Phonetic Alphabet and then play our fun game to see how much you
can remember!
You can also have fun using the phonetic alphabet to
spell your name or maybe the name of your brother or sister?
